Liver Cirrhosis is a late-stage liver disease where healthy liver tissue is progressively replaced by permanent scar tissue, impeding normal liver function and blood flow. Management requires close hepatological supervision to prevent complications such as ascites (fluid in abdomen), esophageal variceal bleeding, hepatic encephalopathy, and jaundice. Looking for the Clinical Diet Plan?
Read the nutrition guide and discuss individual needs with your clinician.
When should I see a gastroenterologist?
Seek assessment if symptoms persist, recur, disturb sleep or affect eating and daily activities. Tests and treatment are selected for your history and examination; not everyone needs every test listed above.
Warning signs: seek urgent care
Vomiting blood, black tarry stools, fainting, new confusion, severe persistent abdominal pain, or fever with jaundice require urgent hospital assessment. Do not wait for an appointment response.

Can diet cure cirrhosis?
Nutrition helps prevent malnutrition and supports treatment, but does not remove established liver scarring. Protein, salt and fluid advice should be tailored to complications and other medical conditions.
